Tinley Park 183rd Street Extension

Overview

Robinson, in conjunction with the Village of Tinley Park and Cook County Highway Department, completed the two-mile reconstruction and extension of 183rd Street from US Route 45 (LaGrange Road) to 80th Avenue. This project included a new Metra roadway at grade crossing, which allows 183rd Street to extend over 14 miles in the Chicago Southland region.

 

Scope

  • Full-depth concrete on two mile reconstruction and extension

  • Two lanes in each direction and dedicated turn lanes at intersections

  • Two public open houses and multiple stakeholder meetings

  • Complete Streets approach to roadway improvement

  • Successful collaboration between the Village of Tinley Park, Cook County, Illinois Department of Transportation, Metra Railroad, and residential and commercial stakeholders

Results

  • Funding negotiated to include Federal transportation (STU) funds

  • Extensive right of way documentation

  • Roadway corridor sustainability was maintained with context-sensitive solutions

  • Increased safety and capacity on roadways
