On a crisp Saturday morning, 12 Robinson volunteers joined forces with Sauk Village to turn a worn out ball field back into a useable diamond! Fields were scrubbed of weeds and debris, dugouts cleaned and repaired, buildings painted and the batting cages fixed. The Sauk Village little league was thrilled with the results and the park was scheduled for reuse again this year.
The really amazing thing was that both REL Cubs and Sox fans joined together in this venture and the friendly banter remained jovial throughout. Perhaps this example can be duplicated to bring the Chicago faithful to friendlier terms.
The results were dramatic and as the movie Field of Dreams put it, “Build it and they will come!”
